The chassis number codes for 1980 became less straight forward than the early years. 92 is the first two of the model. A is 1980. 0 is place of production, followed by the last digit of the model, 4. Next is the engine code: 1 & 2 are the 125hp version; 3 & 4 the 115hp version. All followed by the 4 digit serial number.

  "About my car,  it is a 1980 924 that is raced in E Production in the SCCA (well almost ready to race).  The car is Guards Red, the wheels are Cookie Cutter 15x7 (per rules), the car has been completely gutted for racing.  The total weight is 2210 and I hope to get the car down to 2180.    The CIS fuel injection has been replaced with a TMW intake manifold and twin Weber DCOE 40 carbs.  I replaced the Bosch electronics with the Crane Cam XR700 ignition and PS91 Coil.  I have a Bursch header with a Thrush glass pack muffler.   The suspension is being worked on as I write this e-mail.  I'm converting to Carrera coil overs on all four corners, 350lbs springs in the front and 650lbs springs in the rear.   The torsion bar was tossed out.  Weltmister swaybars were installed.  The brakes were upgrade per the rules to the 83-85 four wheel disc brakes with a Tilton bias adjuster.

 I will be converting the car to all fiber glass (except the roof and doors) this winter.  I'm going to use the D Production Kit from GT Racing in Minneapolis, MN.  I already have the front and rear bumpers from the kit on the car.  I will also be replacing the rear window with a Lexan replacement.

 I'm enclosing a older picture of the car from last season when I raced in ITA with the SCCA.  If you would like to know more let me know.  Also I'm the person who worked with the SCCA to bring the 924 back to Production racing.  I wrote the letter last year and it was approved back in March.    I know of several other 924's being converted and at least one that was raced by Doc Bundy to a D Prod championship in either '80 or '81.5-speed 944 S2 suspension & brakes"

Chuck's car, named "Prosit" (a German expression meaning cheers), is a very special 924. This car, which he bought second-hand in 1983, is one of the top Concours 924 cars in the country, regularly vying for top honors. It is also still driven regularly on the roads, though naturally not through some of the nasty stuff the rest of us will subject our cars to! Chuck has sent me a photo to scan in (as he is not online) as well as a copy of the window sticker, a copy of the Certificate of Authenticity, and copies of a couple of articles on the car. I'll post them here once I've got them scanned.

My 924 is Indiana Red Metallic, the interior is beige leatherette. It has California emissions, electrically heated/adjustable outside mirrors and manual tilting/removable sunroof.
It has never seen snow or any disagreeable weather. It is garaged except for summer months when we are back in WI to drive it.
I have Collectors plates on it and it is in excellent condition on the exterior, interior and mechanically. I have been asked by several individuals when I am out driving if I would sell the car, it looks that good. I say NO, when I no longer want the car, I will give it to my son.

Car appearance is different to USA as has ATS 15 X 6 lace wheels , no side reflectors, bumpers without shock absorbers, single tone paint. Car has add on air con because high import duties at the time made factory air too expensive. This has been basis of many cooling problems until I bought factory two fan radiator cowl.

Problems At purchase Jan 1997 Clutch would not return quickly. Replaced master and slave but turned out to be flexible hose had closed up inside. Power windows U/S traced to and replaced switches; Gearbox linkages worn out. 911 bushes at gearbox end fit 924 linkage . Avoids buying linkage. 928 pivot ball is same as 924 turbo; Diff carrier bearing failed from before purchase. Rebuilt gearbox and diff myself. replaced all wheel bearings, CV joints; Wipers and washers did not work properly. Only recently finally fixed; Exhaust manifold studs broke off . recently had replaced with stainless as per Jim Pasha advice

Latest problem clutch hydraulics gone again. Replaced cups in master and slave cylinder at local brake shop at $10 cost. Now to successfully bleed! Several other problems such as resealing back window, re hanging doors, headlight motor, replace ignition components

Color is Venus Rot. The car sat in a "barn" for about 15 years and has been in the restoration process for about 2 and a half years. The original tires were dry rotted. The paint and interior are original, although the car was covered with house paint overspray. It has only 18,500 miles on it, but the engine had seized and the cylinder walls were too pitted to save. The engine now in the car came from another 80 931 via ebay and I have rebuilt with 87 mm pistons, it installed a new clutch, and fuel system including tank, fuel pumps, accumulator filter and injectors. It is now (I am happy to say) running and street legal. The car was first sold by Camelback Porsche in Arizona for just under 24K. Because it is a German car out of the desert, it is now affectionately known as the "Desert Fox". A bit corny I know...but hey!

"Arnold", is a Sport 5-speed, 16" flat dish forged alloys, rear wiper, M471 sport package, "S" hood decal, lowered, K+N air filter. The decals were either "dark" or "light" and were installed at the factory...This was NOT an after market thing, nor was it something that the US dealerships put on for fun. The first three months of the Turbos sent to the

Car purchased in March 2000. Appears to be 4-5 previous owners before myself. Owner before seller seems to have spent a lot of time/money semi-restoring the vehicle, detailed records (folder of receipts) from 1993 to present day. Car is in excellent original condition inside and out with no modifications other than non-factory air conditioning.

To date:
* Installed stereo - 6" Boston Acoustics splits in front, 7*10" Kenwood co-axials rear, 10" Boston Acoustic woofer, Kenwood and Jaycar Amps (ITS LOUD ENOUGH)
* Full engine rebuild with all new internals and new turbo October 2000. Much stronger and smoother.
* Dodgy A/C system removed - I want to fit factory removable roof panel
* Custom stainless steel rear exhaust and sport muffler

To do:

* Fit 944T intercooler (purchased) & custom pipes
* Custom Radiator + upgraded oil cooler
* Exhaust manifold coated/turbo jacket
* Install full engine management (EFI and DIS)
* Upgraded turbo????
* Upgraded suspension (usual stuff)
* Upgraded brakes - 930 3.3 brakes as per GTS
* 924 GTS bodykit and interior restoration
* Removable roof panel

THEN WATCH OUT YOU 911 BOYS - goal is circa 180Kw or 245bhp as per GTS non club sport.

Colour is petrol blue with moca interior with op art panels in two tone brown. Driver seat was replaced with Corbeau seat and all seat faces were changed to same colour constant checker fabric for less than half the cost of the one seat panel that was ripped. Four wheel vented discs with forged magnesium alloy wheels. Tires 205/55VR16 and best rubber was Yokohama A008s. These replaced the original Pirelli P-7s which aged poorly. When I contacted Pirelli Canada and showed them the condition of the tires near the end of their life I was told I drove them too hard!

I bought this car with about 44,000 kms in December 1983 as a graduation present to myself. It replaced my 1970 Datsun 240Z (HLS 3000718, the 718th Z car made!). I kept it until August 1999 when I traded it in on a 1999 Acura Integra Type R. By then it had 180,000 kms on it and despite my best efforts and constant attention it was falling apart. It still looked excellent but the engine was hurting bad. One guy who looked at buying it took it to my mechanic and it turned out to have poor compression and one cylinder's valves were pretty much shot.

I wish it the motor didn't age so poorly as I might have kept it and restored it otherwise. I may buy another or a 944 for full restoration and upgrade and would like to take to others who put high miles on the 924 turbos or 944s.

grand prix white, with black leather interior. The car came with an extra engine. I drove the car infrequently for almost a year before I started having CIS problems. I replaced fuel pumps, cleaned injectors, all to no avail. Number 4 cylinder now carbon fouls the plug after 10 minutes. The compression ratio is 100 psi for #4 and 120 psi for the remaining cylinders. These are tired CR’s.

I am in the process of completely rebuilding the motor. I ported the head and intake manifold, acquired a Weber big throat throttle body, will install Raceware studs, GTR head gasket and gapless Perfect Circle moly ring set, using 7.5:1 stock pistons and bottom end. The stock exhaust manifold is going to be ported and a hybrid turbo is being built at Majestic Turbo (based on a Garrett T3). I will install a 951 intercooler with 2.5" aluminum plumbing and 1 bar wastegate spring. I also will upgrade the oil cooler using one from an early Mazda RX7, these are very nice. A cam shop is grinding a high performance cam based on flow data measurements from my cylinder head and intake manifold. The final step is to install an Electromotive TEC2, DIS system with high flow Bosch EFI injectors. The cylinder head is being adapted for these injectors.

Goodbye cold start injector, fuel pressure regulator and auxiliary air valve. No longer will I be plagued with well intentioned CIS remedies dreamt up in Weisbauden. The engine should produce 250 h.p.

My car is registered as a 1980 Model but I have had great difficulty when ordering parts for that year. If I order interior parts for a 1980 they are not correct but the parts for a 1979 are correct. Most of the running gear appears to be 1979 as the vehicle has the disc/drum brake system, alloy wheels which are 15" four bolt. The vehicle has the 016Z transmission and a dash in miles per hour stopping at 85 MPH and the 55 is highlighted. It is also equipped with P/W, P/Mirrors (heated), rear spoiler, air conditioning (Nippon Denso) and looks exactly like the picture of the 924 Turbo in the Haynes Manual being silver on top and charcoal below. It has 85,000 miles on the clock. At the present time I am trying to ascertain the correct year of manufacture for the car in order to have it registered properly as everything I have found so far points to 1979. If anyone has any ideas as to the year of my car please contact me by E-mail.

Long live the first water cooled Porsche .

I have owned this car for just over 2 years and am the 7th owner.The mileage is genuine and I have a full service history. 2 new wings (fenders) Respray New rubber seals throughout Turbo rebuild (I think this uses the series 2 mechanics, as it responds much better and the car has increased hp) Cylinder head overhaul (local engineer polished inlet/outlets manifolds increased hp) New gaskets for exhaust, turbo etc
new tyres (yokohama and they're rubbish especially in the wet) new shock absorbers Clifford Concept 50 Alarm/immobiliser Blaupunkt Head unit + multichanger Alpine 8 speaker system K & N air filter
And usual oil changes etc.

Since the turbo rebuild and cylinder head overhaul I have noticed and increase in hp and I estimate it to have 190hp. When I put the car back on the road for the winter seaon (October sometime) I will have the car set up correctly on a rolling road and have the hp checked out. However I am currently looking for an intercooler (similar to the 924 Carrera GT) and a set of 16" fuchs alloys.

Picked up an 80' 924 Turbo US spec from a guy I knew in Germany.  Needs some work, mostly minor piddly stuff,  but I have a real bad problem with condensation building up in the cab.  Once I get the valve job done, its more cruising time around here. Right now I'm waiting for the Porsche Club of Britian to send me their info on how to join and see what they have to offer.

This car is a M471 model with all options. I've made a few mods, mostly bolt on stuff. A cam, new turbo, drilled rotors, stainless lines, 951 intercooler. My next move is an Audi 5000S throttle body. I have the usual problems: cracked dash, wet floor, and noise. But, I LOVE THIS CAR!

I have a 1980 931S which I have made extensive modifications to. It has been dynoed at 200 HP without a intercooler. The intercooler is now installed! (Wonder what it dynos now? Webmeister). Other than the motor the whole car has been restored inside and out.

I also have many 924 and 931 parts for sale. I also have fabricated an improved air intake for 931's which flows 400 more cfm than the stock air box setup. So if you know anyone looking for anyone of these two mentioned above, just have them e-mail me or call me at On The Edge Performance 719-578-0911 and ask for Rory or Bill.

The '80 is really pretty much stock other than simple bolt on stuff. I put Koni shocks all around and recently put eibach 210 # springs up front. I am going over Jim Pasha's articles in Excellence to come up with the correct torsion bars to use in back with the springs and shocks currently on the car. Stock factory 4 wheel discs are on it. The boost has been played with by adding an adjustable waste gate controller, and by replacing the stock 0.43 bar spring with a 1.0 bar spring from Performance Products. I am lucky in that I am the second owner of the car; not only was I able to buy it from my friend, hence I have known the car since it was new, but my friend owns his own garage and only works on porsches, MB, BMW and other high end euro cars. So it was really taken care of. Except for when he got a bad tank of gas while driving across texas and ended up burning and then dropping a valve. Good news is that he completely rebuilt the engine with ALL new parts other than the crank. About 4000 miles later he decided he liked airplanes and parked the car. That is when I bought it. :) Car currently has 56k miles on it.

As I really got it as my wifes car I have not done anything else to it as far as engine or other things
